What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy aims to help restore movement and normal body function when there is illness, injury and disability, looking at the whole body rather than just focusing on individual factors causing illness or injury.

Physiotherapists use a wide range of treatment techniques and approaches.

We offer:

Movement and Exercise - Physiotherapists use therapeutic exercises designed to strengthen the affected body area. Exercise can also be used to maintain and increase joint range of movement.

Manual Therapy - Manual therapy involves using the hands to mobilise joints and soft tissues. Physiotherapists can provide passive stretching of joints along with massage of muscle tissues. It is suitable for most people and can be used to:

·         improve blood circulation

·         help fluid drain from parts of the body more efficiently

·         improve movement of different parts of the body

·         relieve pain and help relaxation

Falls and Balance - We can help provide therapy to improve your balance and co-ordination and to help reduce falling.

Mobility (Walking) Rehab - If you have had recent changes in your walking ability, have stiffness or pain when walking, we can help.

Hydrotherapy - Hydrotherapy is a form of physiotherapy carried out in water. It is usually carried out in a specialist heated (>33 degrees) pool.

Hydrotherapy can improve blood circulation, relieve pain and relax muscles. For more details refer to our Hydro Active Hydrotherapy section.
